Renting a car

There are no specific EU rules on car rental, but you can still rely on your basic consumer rights when you rent a car in another EU country. These rights include

• the right to clear information
• the right to a fair contract
• access to alternative dispute resolution in the event of a dispute with the car rental company

When you reserve a car, you should distinguish between car rental companiesand intermediariesor brokers. Agents do not provide the rental car themselves, but reserve a car with a rental car company on your behalf. In the event of a dispute, the car rental company is responsible for the application of the contract, unless otherwise stated in the contract.
