Report the theft of your own identity card
Source: Zuständigkeitsfinder Schleswig-Holstein (Linie6Plus)
Service Description
If your ID card has been stolen, you must report it.
As a German citizen, you are required to have an identity card from the age of 16 if you do not have a valid passport. Any theft of your identity card must be reported to the Bürgeramt or the police. If you do not do this, you are acting irregularly.
After reporting it, you can apply for a new identity card. If you have a valid passport, you do not have to apply for a new identity card.
If you report the theft to your local citizens' registration office or the police, the online ID card will be blocked at the same time.
You can also have your online ID card blocked yourself by telephone.
The blocking ensures that any attempt at misuse is detected immediately. After the blocking, it is no longer possible to use the online ID card function of your ID card or to have it read on site.
You can only have the signature function blocked by the provider of your signature certificate.
