Report cards with/without grades in the individual school types

Pupils in Schleswig-Holstein are entitled to a school report at the end of the first school semester, at the end of the entire school year, at the end of the last teaching block in the school semester in the case of block teaching at vocational schools and when leaving school. Leaving certificates are issued if the pupil has obtained a qualification that is possible at lower and upper secondary level and cannot or does not wish to continue attending school. If the necessary performance requirements are met, a leaving certificate confers the right to attend further school or vocational courses, insofar as this is necessary for the respective access.

In the certificate, the performance achieved in class is assessed by the teachers involved and by the school management within the scope of their duties under their own pedagogical responsibility and the qualifications achieved are certified.

Report cards can be issued in text form (report cards), by grades (grades 1 to 6) or - in the upper school - by points (0 to 15 points). In years 5 to 7 at comprehensive schools, there is the option of a portfolio-based report. . The school conference decides on the principles for the application of uniform standards for performance assessment and the issuing of reports.
